Sixty Years

Saturday 20th April 2024 @

Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, Surrey.

Following nearly two years of planning, the big day finally arrived, and what an amazing day it was.

After a couple of hours of set up on Friday afternoon, the chilly but bright Saturday morning saw the arrival of a hardy crew made up of all the admin team and a hand full of club volunteers at just before 7am to start setting up our club display area and gazebos. By 8.30 we were just about ready to receive the 187 of our own members cars that had booked a space in our plot. A truly exceptional turnout.

The Brooklands marshals did a great job of handling all the other club areas. And the cars kept coming. It was very soon clear that the numbers would be way past the 400 cars who had registered to attend.

It's fair to say that the months of meticulous preparation really paid off. Soon the site was close to full, and we looked around in disbelief at just how many American car owners and members of the public had chosen to join our celebration.

Having so many different American cars, special displays of TV & Film cars, Hot Rods, Harley Davidsons, a band, a singer, dancing, live entertainment, excellent catering, numerous trade stands, all in the setting of Brooklands Museum, most people would have to agree that our event was exceptional.

Well beyond 800 display cars and over 3,000 people joined us for the day.  We thank each and every one for supporting our event.

The only question is.....     'How do we follow that?'

FORD MUSTANG

(1964 - 2024)

The worlds first 'Pony Car'.

The Ford Mustang was officially unveiled by Henry Ford II at the World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows, New York, on 17th April 1964 as both hardtop and convertible models. That same day, the Mustang debuted in Ford showrooms across America and almost 22,000 Mustangs were immediately snapped up by buyers. A fastback version became available in August 1964.

That same year, a Mustang appeared in the James Bond movie “Goldfinger" and in 1968, a Mustang 390 GT was featured in the Steve McQueen movie “Bullitt”. Since then, Ford Mustangs have appeared in hundreds of movies.

Ford sold more than 400,000 Mustangs within its first year of production. In March 1966, the one millionth Mustang came off the assembly line and within three years of its debut, 500 Mustang fan clubs had started up. Six generations and nearly sixty years later, the Mustang story of one of the most iconic cars in the world continues.
